Media Literacy and Disinformation Online Workshop for Greek and Turkish Young Leaders 25 – 27 October 2021

The Deadline for Applications is Friday, 22 October 2021

The Center for International and European Studies (CIES) at Kadir Has University in partnership with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, Turkey Office is organizing its first online Media Literacy and Disinformation Workshop for Greek-Turkish university students and young professionals on 25-27 October 2021 between 18:00 and 21:00 (GMT+3) each day. This initiative stems from the annual Greek-Turkish Young Leaders Symposium (GTYLS) that the CIES and its partners have been organizing since 2015.

The significance of media literacy and the necessity of “Confronting Disinformation and Enhancing Societal Resilience” as identified in the NATO 2030 Agenda has been a frequent reference point in recent symposia. This online workshop will be followed up by the 8th GTYLS that will take place on 24-27 November 2021 in Athens with the aim to contribute to an enhanced cooperation between Greek-Turkish young leaders in order to confront challenges against media freedom and citizens’ rights to communicate in their respective countries.

The online workshop is organized though the collaborative efforts of academics from Kadir Has University, the Panteion University of Athens and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, bringing together experts and media professionals from both countries. The workshop aims to:

  • contribute to an increased level of understanding on misinformation and disinformation
  • raise awareness in news and media literacy
  • equip the participants with tools and skills to combat mis/disinformation
  • develop familiarity with practices of fact-checking and verification of content
  • consider and reflect on the implications of infodemic for IR and Public Diplomacy

The workshop is free upon registration and open to participants from both countries between the ages of 18 to 40.
